Rob Abel Dr. Abel helps facilitate the participant year-1 curricular experiences at Mesa Jr High School.

Powell Jr High School

Joseph Magie Mr. Magie helps facilitate the participant year-2 curricular experiences at Powell Jr High School. Mr. Magie currently teaches middle school science at Powell, where he has been for the last three years. He grew up on a farm in Western Kansas. He said, "Growing up in a rural community gave me many opportunities to explore the outdoors and enjoy nature." He credits his enduring interest in building things to his experiences on the farm. "I was able solve problems on the farm. I always found ways to build or make new inventions using the resources around me." He said that while attending Emporia State University in Kansas, his experience in a "real science class" excited him and spawned the idea of practicing and promoting science, which led him to becoming a science teacher.
